I think that in todays world BF's ideals hold up well, but now to a different level. Virtues in American society are very important today because t shows how people should behave and act in todays world. BF set those ideals many years ago and now we are using those as the base to build upon to make them better for todays society.

I believe that Ben Franklins virtues are still important in todays society. In class today we said the meanings of each virtue in a more modern form. I think those hold true as important however we now a days we can give other meaningsto them. We can look at newer parts of society like technologies that werent around when Ben Franklin made these up and inturperet his older meanings into our modern times. Also becuase of times changeing we can add other values such as education that were not as valuable back then but are valued very much in todays society.

Franklin's virtues hold true but on different degrees. People follow his 10 virtues and over all, those 10 virtues are the base of every other virtue. Respecting others/elders can go with sincerity. Honesty can go with cleanliness. There are others that people say are virtues but are actually branched off of Franklin's 10 virtues.

Today, virtues in American Society are somewhat important. Although, the American culture has changed over time, and has developed in different virtues, some, such as those listed by Benjamin Franklin, remain the same. I think that the past virtues evolved based on society and how it has been using them. Obviously today's society differs as that of the past, that's why the virtues have different meanings. Not everyone believes in them, and not everyone agrees with them either. I think that B. Franklin's virues hold up in today's time. I noticed that our virtues are based on those of B.Franklin's. We can identify what each virtue represents in our society, and give examples of each which shows the existence of B. Franklin's ideals.

American values are essentially built on integrity, they were back then in Ben Franklin's time, and still are today; if you take examples such as 'Silence' or 'Resolution', which today would transform into not speaking unless you have something worthwhile to say or going through with a task if you announce that you are, it's evident that a great deal of Franklin's virtues can be translated into the belief's of the American society today, and they do hold great importance because, like I've stated before, we as Americans were built on a strong foundation, and our virtues, even through the time have evolved, from the establishment of Franklin’s virtues, to reflect that. Another illustration of this could be the comparison of the American values we were told of in our book, such as ‘work’ and ‘personal achievement’ which are interchangeable with Franklin’s values such as ‘Industry’, or always being employed, and ‘Order’, which means to do things in accordance to their priority if it transcends into your own self development and success.

The importance of virtues in American Society today, are very significant. I agree, with Kiran that Integrity is the main virtue in American Society. We, as Americans try to uphold our own morals and beliefs. People from all over the world come to the U.S. because of the First Amendment which is: Freedom of religion, of speech, of the press, to petition, and to assemble. We are taught to respect people's religions, morals and beliefs. And these morals, virtues, and religions make us the people we are, we become, what we stand for and treat others around us. I think that Ben Franklin's ideals still hold up in the 21rst century, our society has lost some of those virtues but others still uphold today. One of the examples are:
Silence: Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself. Avoid trifling conversation.
Basically it translates to how people say: “if you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all.’’ Especially these days it’s important for people to know when and when not to talk. Another virtue we use that still implies today are:

Order: Let all your things have their places. Let each part of your business have its time. What I think it’s trying to say is that everything has a order which our society is based on and organization is important to have to be successful, if everything was disorganized everything would be in chaos.
I think, Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought. Perform without fail what you resolve, Is one of the most important virtues in, American Society. What it means today I think is determination to accomplish what you set out to do. We Americans, are always setting goals for ourselves and most of us do whatever it takes to reach them.

In my opinion, virtues are very important to Americans in today's society. Virtues are something that people believe in and therefore they stand by them. Whether virtues are related to religion or not, they are a key function to our everyday lives. as we saw in class, Franklins virtues still hold up today, just in a more modernized way.

(Mr. B, Please disregard my comment above) I believe that every virtue that we have today is a result of Ben Franklins original 10. People may say that they have made up their own but they will always fall into one of the original 10, for example a virtue to some people might be "the golden rule", this rules can fall into sincerity. Or people might say spend wisely and don't over do anything because, a) we don't need it and b) we need to be saving all we can with an economy like this. It doesn't matter the reason, all that matters is that it falls into one or both of the following virtues, either frugality which is waste nothing and only buy and consume things that will benefit your self and other people, or moderation, which is to avoid extremes.

It's really amazing to me how someone who lived very long ago, could come up with the values that Benjamin Franklin came up with. All of the virtues were fitting in his time and most of them can be followed nowadays. Obviously the times have changed but look at how people can benefit from following, or atleast noticing the virtues he has brought forth. I will only go into detail about how a few of the virtues can be related to the modern day lifestyle.
Silence: That's just universal. If what you want to say doesn't benefit another, don't say it.
Resolution: Don't stop or procrastinate when you begin something, complete it.
Sincerity: Obviously be honest think about good things.
Moderation: Take things one at a time. Don't go overboard.
Those are just a few and most of the others can be used in our era also.

The virtues today are built upon the ones that my boy B Frank addressed years ago. While society does deem these virtues important, deep below the surface, you can see that these virtues are put aside. The examples of goverment, police, and business corruption show that people will always do what they want to achieve their own personal goals. Virtues will always be needed to show how people should think or act, even if that might not always be true.

I believe that Ben Franklins 10 virtues are a important part of todays society. those virtues are still around only in a modified way, we have expanded to the virtues that he gave to us. I believe that a few of Ben Franklins 10 virtues are still apart of America today, such as cleanliness beceuse there are still people who are pure and good. But, there are a few virtues that don't hold up in todays life, like the Temperance virtue, there is alot more binge drinking and drunk driving in todays life, its become a very big problem for people to not drink until theyre unconcious.

In today's society the 10 virtues are still very key and important. Some virtues may not be exactly the same and have been modified slightly but they are still the base of american culture. For example virtues like order and cleanliness. There are also some that are not as significant to American culture such as temperance where alcohal and drinking is much more accepted in todays society. The 10 virtues are still very much apart of society

I think that virtues are still very important in the American Society today. Some virtues are more valued than others but those less valued still exist. I think that Ben Franklin's 10 virtues still hold up today because as many people had already said, they are the basic virtues (the main virtues) and other virtues are based off of Ben's original 10. When you compare our society today to the society that Ben Franklin grew up and lived in, we can obviously say that things are very different now comapred to the past. Over years things change in a society and as a result there might be changes in the virtues here and there, but overall I think that the virtues of Ben Franklin will always holp up.
