Halloween...Is it Deviant?

One of your favorite childhood holidays falls on this Saturday October 31st, I am of course talking about Halloween. My two questions for all of you are, A) Do you still dress up for Halloween, and B) At what age does it become deviant to dress up in a costume and ask your neighbors or strangers for treats?

Halloween is a fun holiday but i can honestly say that for the last few years i havent dressed up to go trick or treating. I dont think i am too cool for it and i dont think its dumb if older kids dress up i just havent done it. I believe that you can dress up your whole life and you shouldnt be considered deviant because it is a fun holiday that everyone should take part in.

Halloween, my favorite holiday of the year. I am still debating if i should dress up or not, i do not remember if i did last year, but the odds are that i will due to i have been craving candy. I believe that it doesn't matter how old you are you can still trick or treat you just will get questioned about it sometimes. It just means you have lots a spirit and don't care if people make fun of you for dressing up as what ever you dressed up in. It's a holiday where people can dress up and give/ get candy. Deviance if you do dress up and ask for candy to your neighbors, i think not unless you force them to give you candy then it is deviance or if you vandalize there house with eggs for them not giving you candy.

The past few years I've dressed up for Halloween, and I'm pretty sure this year i will as well. In my opinion, dressing up for this upcoming holiday at any age shouldn't be considered deviant. I mean I'm pretty sure i love candy now just as much as i did when i was 5 or 6. I don't see how dressing up past a certain age could be labeled as deviant. If you see 40 year olds going door-to-door for treats, it's kind of weird yes, but i don't think their intentions are in relation with deviance, they simply just want to enjoy the holiday and the one day a year that allows us all to dress up and go out.

Last year I did not dress up for Halloween but not because i didn't want to, i just wasn't allowed out. This year I do not plan on getting dressed up or going trick or treating because i'm going to hang out with friends and watch scary movies instead. I do not think it is ever deviant to dress up and ask people for candy on Halloween, it is just considered strange or wierd by many people if your older than in yout teens and you're still getting candy.

Halloween is a holiday for kids to enjoy and have a fun time with their friends. I don't think halloween is deviant day but some people in these days make it deviant, for example when kids goes to their and strangers house, sometimes they take advantage of it by violating their property. in my case I don't really go to halloween because people in my age didn't go to halloween that much. Another reason that didn't go to halloween that much beacuse i wasn't born in this country and i moved here in 2006. I don't think it is deviant for an older person to go to the halloween, unless they commits any devinat acts.

I think halloween is deviant because it promotes thins that are considered bad suck as mischievous behavior and wired customes. For example some kids take it to the next level such as destorying property while out or stealing candy from other kids. This behavior happens due to the mood of the night. Sometimes poeple dress up as murders, thieves and criminals.

Halloween is a very fun holiday for most kids. the last time i dressed up for halloween was like 7th grade. i don't think that halloween is deviant for younger kids and like younger teens. but i also think that halloween does become deviant with older kids and when they first enter high school, and i think so because then they realize that they grown out of it and kind of look stupid doing it so they start doing deviant stuff because thats fun for them now.

I stopped dressing up unless for Halloween party, but I don't think it makes you deviant if you still do. There is an age, usually when you're in college that it seems normal to fully stop. If you continue to trick or treat in college but you truely enjoy it then it's not deviant but if your doing to either compete for the most candy or you don't feel like buying some then that seems to me a little deviant. It's kind of like stealing from a store but no one would ever find out because it's normal to get free candy on this day. I feel that it's only deviant if you have deviant intentions, but if you enjoy it then I don't feel there is a deviance to it.

As you get older parents and adults question whether it is right to go out trick or treating or dressing up for Halloween. Some feel that there comes a time when its time to stop dressing up and going out, while others love the halloween theme and enjoy trick or treating. Personally i do still dress up for halloween; but only if there is a halloween party or event to goto that requires a costume. Although i do not goto my neighbors or ask strangers for treats, i am not against it. I believe that it is ok to goto neighbors or strangers as long as your doing it in a non-deviant way. Many people go out on halloween and refer to it as a night to wreck things or do mischievous things. Many may argue that as you get older theres no need for candy and going door to door, but as long as your going door to door with no deviant intentions, it is ok to do, as long as you are still in highschool. After highschool i believe it is ok to dress up and still celebrate Halloween, but i'd say it is time to stop going to your neighbors for candy and treats and maybe hand out candy to others.

Absolutley.. I love this holliday it gives people the chance to escape from reality and experience life thru one of thir favorite characters. It becomes devient i belive around 18 because your an adult and need to start taking your younger syblings out to enjoy the night. Or hand out candy because it looks a little sketchy seeing an older man begging for candy. Also, i still dress up becuase i like to be part of the action to...just dont go trick or treating.

I actually still do dress up for halloween. I think its a really fun holiday and its fun to be something else for a night. I do think that there is a certain age though that it becomes deviant to go trick or treating, because by a certain age you become an adult and you shouldnt be asking other adults to give you candy, its just weird. But as for dressing up i honestly think your never too old.

Halloween is still very funn no matter your age. It is a day that you can pretend to be anybody or anything you want. I still do dress up and hang out with friends or family and have a good time.I think it never becomes deviant to dress up but people do think it is weird and they look down on it if your in your late teens or older and still ask for treats. If you are older and ask for treats or walk around town dressed up people think you are up to no good because of your age group.

I think Halloween is a holiday for all ages. Last year I did dress up for halloween and went trick or treating. This year I won't be dressing up for halloween but I will be handing out candy to the little kids that ring the door bell. I think that people should always be able to dress up for halloween. I do, however, think there is a time to stop asking others for treats. I think when you have children of your own, you should put the pillow case away and go with them. But dressing up for this halloween is a tradition I believe all people can take part in.

I ALWAYS dress up for halloween. Every year is like the best night of my life because i get to stay out with my boyfriend till whenever i wanna and because you get free candy, i mean whats better than FREE:] lol and i think you can dress up all the time because youll eventually have children and you want to bring them so they can get some candy too.

In the past years i have done a little blood and paint when giving out candy, but nothing like a full costume. I don't think that there is a set age when asking for candy becomes deviant, but there is a time when it becomes strange and you could call it deviant.

Halloween is for everyone!!!
I dress up and get in the character every year... I personally feel that this holiday is for everyone and it "never" becomes deviant for people to dress up and ask for candy. If everyone loves candy people shouldn't feel discouraged to dress up and ask for some. I even think that if an old grandma wants to play trick or treat go right ahead... I support her 100%...

Halloween is not a deviant holiday. The purpose for it is to be able to dress up as something that isn't you and get away from all the norms of society. Little kids are not being deviant because they dressed up as superman and are asking neighbors for candy. Its meant for people come together as a community through passing out candy and block parties and whatnot. Overtime a deviant subculture has come about. With the coming of mischief night and the idea that teenagers will go out and egg houses and such, Halloween has been painted in a more negative light. If some people want to try and sour society's views of Halloween by going out and being knuckleheads than that's their prerogative. I just don't think people should group the holiday with the actions of a small percent of people. I do not believe that Halloween is deviant. Its about dressing up and getting candy.

i think halloween is a the best holiday because its a day to remember all the people that has died in the past. it also fun to see everyone to see the childrens, teens, and adults dress up in different costumes. you also get free candies. i think there is nothing deviant about this because halloween only comes around once year. so i think its fine to enjoy it once a year.

Personally, i am not dressing up this year. I dressed up enough for spirit week this year. But i don't think it's deviant to dress up and ask for candy around your town. Although, alot of older kids make it deviant by ding-dong-ditching and egging peoples houses, which is not what halloween is about. And i think thats just annoying. Halloween is only deviant if you make it that way. Besided the deviant kids who play pranks, halloween is not a deviant holiday.

I don't believe Halloween is a deviant holiday ever. I think you can keep dressing up even as an adult. You might want to stop trick or treating at the age of 19 (I am 18). I am not going trick or treating this year because it's raining and I have noone to go with (my young cousin is sick with H1N1 otherwise . . .)

Halloween is a great holiday, but it is mostly directed towards the younger age. I am not dressing up because I would feel like I am taking advantage of the fact we can still get candy rather than really enjoying the holiday like you should. I don't think any age is too deviant to dress up, as long as you can appreciate and wear a costume for the holiday. Everyone should be able to enjoy it! However some people feel that only the young should go trick or treating, and that's their choice.

Yes, I do still dress up for Halloween because it's fun. To me Halloween doesn’t have a have an age limit, but today it's one of society’s folkways that Trick or Treating is more for kids and not adults.

Halloween is not meant to bring out deviance in anybody. It is simply a holiday for fun, for anybody of any age. If it is a celbration of any age, obiously there is an age where trick r' treating should seem a little farfetched. I think i should use a lewis black quote to express the costume delimma though this up. "When you're 7 you can't dress up every day you want, but these adults dressing up in a costume only on halloween is absurd. If you're 35, and you feel like going to work as batman, you can do as you damn well please, and when your boss asks what you're doing, you can simply reply, "I'm batman."" This is a holiday meant for children to have fun, not deivance.

I think that Halloween is a good thing for society beause in a way, it brings people together, by interacting with each other in a jollymood. BUT i think there is also a limit as to who can take part in trick or treating. Ages 16 and below are certified by above that I think it should be considered deviant. True fact- A lady about 34 yrs old came to my friend's house for trick or treating with her little girl who was about 12 yrs old. She came with two bags, obviously we knew one was the kid's but she also had a bag for herself...it was a very awkward moment because he was giving candy to someone who was twice his age..seriously, it should be considered deviant!!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.I have dressed up every year and probably will continue to dress up. I don't think that it is a deviant holiday because it's a day meant for people to dress up. I don't think that it's deviant for people my age to go trick or treating. People take advantage of the night, and decide to commit deviant acts like egging people's houses. I think it should be a personal decision whether or not to go trick or treating, but only if they have a costume. It is silly if someone doesn't dress up and asks for candy. But as long as the person wears an approriate costume and asks for candy, then they are not being deviant.
