I cant really pick a side because I have to agree with the fact that senior year we dont really do much academically.I just believe that its an extra year sor some seniors to pull their act together and take some classes that they will need to help them graduate. For example CAPT classes and some kids who slack off the other 3 years have the chance to bring up their credits and take more classes. So therefore I have to say I'am not in favor of this idea because senior year is help to many students and a waste of time for others and if it wasnt for senior year I wouldnt be in Sociology. :)
i dont think i am in the favor of dropping senior year, as much as the tv and media have senior year pictured totally wrong i think, senior year is something that we need. its a time where we can live our last huarah i guess. there are things we could fix like i think maybe senior year should be just one simester. but mainly i think that we shouldnt drop it. i also think that its a matureing time, not that we are gonna know who we are by the first year of college but i think its a growing period. if we didnt have senior year i think that junior year would just become senior year everything would move backwards a step. i just think that senior year is something that not should be slid by but something to say hey this is it, our last year.
I am not in favor of dropping senior year because senior year gives kids more time to decide what they are going to do with their lives. I know personally junior year I had no clue what I was going to do with my life. IF senior year was dropped i believe that all the laziness and such that they describe in the article would just get pushed down a year and junior would act that way.
Personally I am not in favor of this proposal because I actually am enjoying my senior year. While I have to take certain classes like literature and math, at least I got to choose my courses and I am having fun in them. My senior year is making learning more fun and interesting. I also would like this last year with everyone I know before i go off to college. Just because the work load may be a little lighter than junior year doesn't mean we aren't as involved and busy with schoolwork throughout our senior year. There is still a lot of college planning to do. I think the 12th grade really is more useful than the people in Utah think.
After reading the article, i was in favor of dropping senior year entirely. But after we discussed it in class, it seems the better choice would be to just drop the second semester. This would allow seniors to take any needed classes or electives they're interested in and would allow them to have prom.
The semester and summer they have off before college could be used leisurely, or to travel, or more importantly to work. college is expensive and saving up some money would definitely help. Some could even start college early if they wanted to. no sense in wasting any time, right?
I would love to drop senior year but I would have to disagree with the article and how it described senior year as a complete joke. Senior year as helped me a lot, in letting me get my act together. I agree with Jake that the better solution would be to allow seniors that have passed CAPT requirements and have enough credits to skip the second semester but still be allowed to go to prom and attend school events.

i can't really decide wether im in favor or not. the reason im not in favor is because these years go by so fast and taking a year out wouldn't be cool, no matter how much we all complain about how much we hate school and can't wait to grad. i wouldn't want to take a year out and they talked about how prom is a waste, i cmpletly disagree you get some of the best memories from prom. the reason i am in favor is because it saves money and thats about it. so i guess im more not in favor.
i also agree with nate, i would love to drop it becuase yes i do complain a lot....BUT i learned a lot this year not just in class but with resposibility, getting a car and really stepping into the new year.
I cant decide weither im in favor or dont because me being a senior now..i have alot of work to do. i think senior year is important and is a way for you to boost your gpa and learn a little more and take some courses that you werent able to take your junior year. but that doesnt apply to everyone. some students are completely done, ready to graduate and head on to army or already have professions they dont need college for. but there are pros and cons to this and i think that senior year shouldnt be taken out but then again it should. it all depends.
I agree that I would love to drop senior year, but I grew as a person and I know clearly what I want to do with my life. Senior year gave me this opportunity to do this. It would be great to have senior year dropped, but like mentioned, you learn a lot through senior year.
Senior year is a very important year. I feel that if it was taken away then alot of kids would not be completely prepared for the life ahead of them. Even though for many students, their senior year is a breeze, that last year is still significant in a sense that its preparing them for college, or a career. I do however feel maybe some adjustments could be made to senior year. They could maybe make it only be one semester so that you still have foundation but, you dont have to go to school for so long. I just feel that if senior year was taken out all together, then the junior year kids will just move to feeling like they are the top of the school. So taking senior year out completely would jsut be a bad idea!
I agree with Shaw, I also am not in favor of dropping senior year because it gives students more time to discover themselves and figure out what they want to do with their lives. This is because by seniors year, they have more freedom in choosing their classes because they've already gotten the prerequisite course load out of the way.. Senior year is not a waste of time because many students choose not to slack off and they take a hard course load. They decide to save money and time by earning college credits in high school through AP classes. It is up to the student whether or not to use time effectively and efficiently.
I am not in favor of dropping senior year, even though it seems pretty cool to only have 3 years of high school. Senior year gives you time to make sure you have all the classes that you need to take. For example CAPT, some kids that dont pass CAPT, they have a chance to take a class to make sure they get the requirements they need to graduate. I also believe that senior year will give you the chance to get ready for college; figure out what you want to do in your life. With that said, I dont think that they should drop senior year.
really mr b? high school musical?? alright, well im not in favor of dropping senior year at all, its something you earn as growing through the hard aching years of school. junior year is the hardest year, you need most of your classes to get into college, and why not have fun your last year? its the last hoorah, you last shot at having your school career mean something. you grow drastically as a person, have fun, and think about what you want to do after high school. you cant cram all the things that everyone loves about senior year into your junior year because there is already so much going on with you academic life, and i believe way more people would have mental breakdowns with all of that stress. its a time to give the students a chance to relax and leave school with happ memories and all of that mushy stuff
I am not in favor of this idea. I think senior year is there more so for maturity and social reasons than anything. Academically it may not be the strongest year of high school, but it deffinitly isn't spent doing nothing. I can speak for myself and say that I've worked hard and done a lot of work this year. Senior year is really what you make it and I think it is neccessary.
I am not in favor of dropping senior year from the current curriculum. By doing this, junior year would become the new senior year. Also, I think senior year is a very important year for students to learn, not only academically, but more so socially. Also, senior year can be a fun time and junior year requires a lot of responsibility. By getting rid of senior year, junior year would have a tremendous amount of responsibility, even more than it does. Getting rid of senior year would also cause problems like the number of credits and classes you would have to take per year, and I just don't think it will be worth all of the trouble.
I am in favor of dropping senior year from the school curriculum. I think that most people end up having to take elective classes that they really don't have any interest in just because they need credits. School should really be about helping you develop for the future and while high school helps you do that socially, it is lacking in the intellectual development department. I think that it is crazy how a lot of colleges are basically having students retake high school for the first two years of college just so they can really learn the information. I know that for me personally it would have probably made more sense to drop out and get my GED because the college I plan to go to only requires that and is still one of the top in the country for the field I want to go into. Maybe senior year doesn't need to be dropped but there should at least be classes people can take that will be useful for them in the future.
Yes, I am in favor of this idea. If a town can save money by not having senior year they should. After junior year, which is your hardest highschool year, you should have some indication of what you want to do with your life. Junior year you begin college searching and take sats to submit to colleges. In the fall of senior year majority of students submit their college applications. So why not just do it at the end of junior year? or before May 1 of your junior year. However, senior year is very layed back and should enjoy your last year of high school. Senior year is a defining moment in your life. This is the end of a chapter in your life. You decide where you go to college and what you want to do with the rest of your life. If I had to choose, I would keep senior year despite my town saving money. It is an enjoyable memorable year.

When it comes to the idea of whether to drop senior year or to keep it i would have to say i am not in favor of dropping senior year. As a senior now i realize the importance that this year has given me. I feel that i have greatly matured over this year and better understand what i would like to do for my future. I believe that if this year were to be taken out, it would only do harm to people that need this year to truly act like adults in a way. I also think that if we were to take out senior year it would only add stress on to those who dont fully know what they would want to do with their lives. If these group of people are rushed into things they might be set on a carrer that is not one they should be doing. So i do think that shaw has a great point there too. And i also think that senior year is the year that tells you "hey your going to be an adult, you need to step it up." Its that last reminder that your not always going to have your parents there to help and protect you.
i personally do not think the idea of dropping senior year is beneficial in any way. If students had junior year as their last year i feel as though it would come along with the same things that senior year would have. Instead of a senior prom there would be a junior prom, comparable to any senior prom because if there wasnt a senior to begin with everyone would live it up junior year. althought i do think that if there were only three years of high school students wouldnt be as drained out and bored of it the fourth year..like they are now. One very big down fall to not having senior year is CAPT, not everyone passes CAPT the second time around therefore they have classes senior year to replace that. If there was no senior year many students wouldnt graduate because of the time restriction on CAPT.
I am not in favor of dropping senior year. While although I understand the reasons and respect them, I feel they are not strong enough reason to get rid of senior year altogether. I feel this way because I think that by getting rid of senior year junior year will simply become then new senior year, making it a waste. Every thing would just shift down. Also I feel that it is a matureing time, and while although it may only be a little, I feel it prepares us for college. It gives us more time to get our bearings on where we want to go. Lastly i think that senior year is a privilege and something we have all worked for. Overall I feel that senior year is important and should not be dropped.
I dont really think its a great idea to drop the senior year becuase yea most seniors just do nothing that year but for those seniors that need that year to get there credits and take some classes they need to actually graduate its a really good thing. So that they can graduate with there class instead of having to stay back and graduate with the underclass. Yea it would be great to leave school a year early but it would put so much more pressure for the 3 years we would have so the 4th year just spreads everything out so you dont have to cram everything in 3 years.
I am against getting rid of the Senior year. If you do this you will just bring everything you are saying about the senior year to the junior year. If that's the case are we then going to get rid of the Junior year? I believe the four year structure of high school is very manageable and makes sense. In your freshman year you are getting comfortable with the new school and becoming a small fish in a pig pond again now that you are no longer the top of the school. Your sophomore year you get comfortable in your school and its time for business. Your Junior year is undoubtedly your most important year this is crunch time to show colleges what your about. And your senior year you are once again big man on campus and you are just so comfortable in the school and your workload begins to dwindle down as your year comes to a close. If you get rid of the Senior year i believe that whole sequence is ruined
