IAT - Do you believe in it?

After spending today in the Computer Lab taking part in Harvard's IAT please address the following questions...1) Do you think the information the IAT gave you about yourself is accurate? 2) What ways could the test be improved in your opinion?

I don't think the information about myself is accurate. I have strong opinions toward different issues within the world however I never base my opinions towards race. I think that society has changed and recognizes the importance of equality especially having an african american president. I believe society accepts people and is open-minded. I think the test could be improved by classifying how people are sterotypical towards different races. This can allow you to be open-minded about issues that go on in the world and how they can be changed.

I don't believe the information the IAT gave me about myself is accurate. I would never judge someone on their race. I agree with Jenna. I think if the test was changed to test people's sterotypes then the test might give more accurate results.

I believe that the test is not really trying to tell us that we're racists, the test is just showing us the way we think. Some people may accept that they think better of one race over the other. For example when I saw European American and bad together it was hard for me to categorize the words because I kept making mistakes and i dont think that makes me a bad person, its simply the way we think because of society. I think the test is fine the way it is and its just giving us their perspective, not telling us whether we're bad or good people.

i don't think that the results that were given is accuret. i have my own opinion about the issue, but i don't like whites better, i think anyone could be good or bad it doesn't matter the color it matters about what's inside. there are bad white and black people. i think the test could improve by the way you are tested. im right handed and my instinct when going that fast is to press the key under my right finger. also how they would switch the order up everytime, i would get use to one way and then it would be changed, going that fast didnt give me a second to think things through. so i don't think the infomation isn't accurate.

Many people have different perspectives and feelings toward others. People do not always show these feelings and are suprised when they see results when they take a test on it. For example someone who does not express there feelings can get a result of haveing a stronger preferance to caucasions then Afercan-Americans. Someone who expresses there feelings and beliefs can get a result of prefering both races equally. I dont believe the test was accurate because people can get results that are not in the way that they see's others.

i dont think my results were accurate becasue i think they based the results not only on the survey but on how many times you messed up, yet it could just be becasue we are used to a certain order. i think if the test was a questionaire then it would be better becasue its getting to know you as a person and getting the results from there not just going on the order of things that you messed up on during the test or how fast you could do the test.

I dont think the information to this test was exactly accurate.I feel that the test was a lil bit corney because it told you to go as fast as you could but actually people thought before they chose. There are some people that base things off race & ethnicity and there are others that dont. Some of the words they gave you to choose from white people could have took on those actions as well. What they could do to improve the test is put more things too it maybe ask questions and no only show pictures with clicking two button. I also think they based ur results on how many times you've messed up.

i somewhat agree with the IAT results.but i dont look at someone based on their race and i dont characterize them either. i see a person only by personality and it doesnt matter their ethnic background. if i like them then were friends if not, its not because im racist..its because of the way they act or portray themselves.

I somewhat do believe with the IAT results because what it told me at the end was true. I was very surprised, although I have my thoughts about this test being accurate because it just shows you some pictures and you have to categorize them. This could mess up the person taking the test because they are also getting timed and it could mess them up by clicking the wrong one. I believe the test can be improved by giving us a survey instead of organizing pictures to give us a better result

I think that the test gave very accurate information about me. I do believe that I may have a certain preference or even prejudice towards other people, even if I don't always realize it. I think most people do because it is such a normal part of everyday life to assign certain stigmas to people of other races, especially in the news and media. The only thing I think could be improved about the test would be to not use the same pictures and words over and over and over and over. If they used different pictures, it would allow a person to have to think more and it would make them have to think faster because they would not be used to seeing the same picture. However, it was very accurate.

I somewhat agree with the information the IAT test gave me about myself. I dont think that it is totally accurate. I think that the IAT test could improve if it used different pictures instead of using the same ones

I think that the IAT test I took was pretty accurate and I agree with my results for the most part. I feel like the test can be better in many different ways like the general set up of the test could have been better and I felt like it tricked you by switching things up and my results could have been a bit more clear if it was less confusing. Also I think that a lot of other factors come into play when taking about race and I feel like it was more based on physical characteristics with all the pictures and there should have been some more in depth questions or even open ended questions that could give people better results.

I personally dont believe in tests such as the IAT. I dont believe it because you may answer all of the questions right, but you may get different results than you were expecting. Even if you do retake the test over, you are highly likely to reach the same results. I think that if differnet picture would be shown, people might get different results more of the time because the brain would be working differently for each picture that you view.

I believe that the information the IAT gave about me was accurate. While although I do my best not to make judgments on people based on their race, sometimes it is hard and I can not prevent the thoughts that come stright to my mind. I wouldn't say that I am a full blown racist, but sometimes I might sterotype people. On the other hand I dont think that the test was testing to see if we were racist or not, but simply what we perfer. As for the test itself I think it could be improved by maybe changing the order of the questions. I foud the way they grouped certian things made it difficult.Other then that I though the test was put together well and very interesting.

I think that what we choose to do and what our bodies do instinctively are very different things. I wouldn't treat someone differently because of their race, in fact I have good friends who are black and I was said to have a moderate preference towards white people. However I don't think that IAT was wrong. When it comes to being in a room with complete strangers I can honestly say from experience that I am more comfortable when those strangers are white. I think that this could partially be because of the things I see on the news at night growing up. Newington has a much large population of white people then anything else so growing up my main interaction with minorities would have been through the news. In the news we usually see the negatives, man robs a bank or kills someone. So even though consciously I know that not everyone is like that my body still instinctively acts in a way that it sees as what is in it's best interest. Making me less outgoing and quieter around strangers who are black then those who are white. If that makes me a racist then that is just what I am, there are some things that just can't be changed.
