Halloween...Deviant????
One of your favorite childhood holidays falls on Sunday October 31st this year - Halloween. My two questions for all of you are, A) Do you still dress up for Halloween, and B) At what age does it become deviant to dress up in a costume and ask your neighbors or strangers for treats?

Yes, i have dressed up for Halloween and im not really sure what im doing this year, but i don't think that i'm too old to dress up. However i think that at some point it becomes deviant for an adult to dress up and go around asking for free candy. i'd say after like you graduate. But, i do think that its okay for parents to take their children out trick or treating. I just think that theres always a time when you need to start handing out the candy rather than taking it from people.
Yes, I have dressed up these past few years for Halloween. This was not for going out to get candy though. I don't think I will dress up for Halloween this year since I feel maybe I'm really too old, and all the costumes people my age wear are way too revealing. There's not a certain age when trick or treating becomes overrated, just maybe a maturity level...but i'm probably just being the grinch of halloween. Just because you're too old doesn't mean you can't get candy still. People who take their kids or neices and nephews can still feel the joy of Halloween when they take them out around the neighborhood. I agree with haileyG on "I just think that theres always a time when you need to start handing out the candy rather than taking it from people." Which does make sense, seeing as there is going to be a time when you know yourself you are too old.
I have not dressed up for Halloween unless I am going out with my friends to a party. I think that as a senior, trick-or-treating is more for little kids. Parents who are out with their kids find it hard for their little one when there are older teens running around using fowl language and running to houses to out beat little kids for the candy. I agree with Hailey that it is okay to go trick-or-treating with a child as a chaperone but for older teens going out by themselves is just not needed.
I don't dress up for Halloween and i think it becomes deviant for someone to dress up around the age of 16. If you can have a car and get a job, you shouldn't be walking around taking peoples candy. Halloween is really made for children to enjoy and many teens put on a simple mask or hat and put no real effort to get the candy. On the other hand, if you are going to a halloween party of course you should dress up no matter what age you are. The point of a Halloween party is to show off and see different costumes, but trick-or-treating is more for the candy when you get to an older age, and much less meaningful to older teens as compared to younger children.
I dress up for Halloween when my friends and I decided to do something for it but otherwise I wouldn’t. I don’t think that there needs to be an age limit on holidays. I think that if it is still fun for you then you should do what makes you happy. I personally wouldn’t go out for candy because I would rather leave it for the kids who are younger. I don’t think it is deviant to participate in a holiday tradition no matter how old you are. However your judgment should be used. I don’t think it is necessarily fair when parents go out with their children and they have a bag that they expect to get candy in as well.
I have stopped dressing up for Halloween and have started helping my parents out by escorting my brother around the neighborhood. This is because I feel it’s wrong at a certain age for teens to go house to house asking for candy. I know for me one of the primary reasons I stopped is because I have a deal with my brother that ends up with me having candy in my pocket. I feel trick or treating should stop for teens when they have a job and some sort of income because when one has a job, it’s the first step to becoming an adult. Plus, having a little brother who can do all the work for you doesn’t hurt either.
I don't dress up for holloween anymore and haven't since highschool. I think that it becomes deviant to dress up for halloween when you're a freshman in highschool. This is because of two reasons. First of all, it's not right to go to houses and use up the neighboors candy that could be passed out to little kids that are so overjoyed and excited to go trick or treating. I used to hate when I'd go up to a house and the people would say, "Sorry we don't have any candy left." Secondly, i think that it's deviant to dress up in highschool because dressing up becomes an exuse to dress, lets say, a little less.
Yes, very deviant but i feel it all depends on your religious beiefs & how you follow it some people dont celebrate halloween just because they feel its the devils day " & they feel like sinners if they celebrate. But i go to church & I believe in god & I still celebrate halloween because I dont see it as the devils day I see it as a fun day to dress up & go get cavitys haaha ! I guess its all how you veiw things really.
I havent dressed up for halloween in several years. i think you can dress up at any age without it being deviant. its just a fun holiday where you get to dress up. Going to strangers doors and asking for candy is a different story i think once your out of middle school you probably shouldnt go to strangers houses and ask for candy dressed up in a costume.
I have dressed uo for halloween, but that stopped once I entered 10th grade. I on the other hand dont think I'm too old to dress up. I do at think that at some point, but mostly after senior year of high school it becomes deviant of you to go around dressed in a costume asking for candy. I also agree with kdougherty that its not overrated, and agreeing with haileyG that there is a time when you should start handing out candy ranther than asking for it from people.
I have dressed up for Halloween every year of my life, but I havn't always gone trick or treating. I do not believe that it is ever deviant to dress up for Halloween although it can become deviant if you go trick or treating. Last year I took my younger cousin trick or treating, and even though I recieved some candy I do not consider this deviant. I believe that by the time you enter high school it is deviant to go trick or treating unless you are accompanying a small child. It seems a little selfish to go around taking candy from your neighbors, when the children in the neighborhood are the ones who are supposed to be enjoying Halloween. We have all already had our fun, it's the younger generations' turn now.
I for one dont do not dress up for holloween and i think people should stop after middle school. I know my parents get mad when they see kids in highschool showing up asking for candy... I think if you are going to go atleast you atleast need to dress up and wear a mask so the adults cant see you. As for parents going around i think its absolutley pathetic and devian. I can see walking up your child to the door but u dont need to mooch for candy too. Thats why you have jobs and money, so you can buy some. Ps this is Mike Daly's, I Made this account last year for a class and it wont let me make a new one with my email adress.
No, I do not dress up for Halloween anymore. In middle school if I was attending a party I would dress up, but I think that I am too old now. I do not believe however that it is wrong to dress up and have fun with your friends or help a child trick or treat. I think that once you reach the high school level it becomes deviant to ask your neighbors for candy because that part of Halloween is for the younger kids, and a person your age has already enjoyed many years of it. You still can dress up for a party but leave the candy to the younger generation.
Yes, I have dressed up for Halloween every year. At some point I do find dressing up becoming deviant. This is due to the fact when you grow older you should not be asking for free candy from adults who work and make money to support their families. Therefore, I'd say trick or treating should probably end when a person is 16 because this is the age when people start to form and shape themselves, and find out who they really are.
I really wanted to dress up for Halloween this year but I didn't which makes me kinda sad. Also I got sick and that bums me out. I don't really think there's an age you can stop trick or treating. Maybe after you're done with all your college buddies and you've moved on. After that is pursuing your career or having a family. By that time you shouldn't really be trick or treating unless you're bringing your kid out and you want to make sure he's safe. I think they can go out by themselves when you trust them enough and they have a solid group of friends to go with. You never really see anyone trick or treating alone. If you did you'd probably feel really bad for them because they're all alone and you'd only imagine that their parents don't like them or they have no friends. I don't think it's deviant to trick or treat. It's a splenderific time for all.
I stopped dressing up for Halloween before high school started because i always had a job and it required me ot work 5 to 8 so during that time everyone would be out trick or treating and getting all the free candy they want in the world and it made me upset because I still like getting candy but hate dressing up. Anyways...i believe it dressing up for Halloween becomes deviant when your past the 10th grade in high school and if you go around your neighbor hood the people are ovbiously going to know your "too old" to be getting all the candy. It then becomes sad and immature because you need a turning point in your life to be on the other side of Halloween, and thats not reciving candy, it giving out the candy to the little kids. It would just be weird if your in college and still going trick or treating...
A) No, I don’t still dress up for Halloween. The last time I dressed up for Halloween was when I was a freshman in high school.
B) I believe it becomes deviant to ask your neighbor for candy once you’re in your sophomore year in high school. At the age you’re not in middle school and you don’t have the freshman frame of mind. By sophomore year you should be thinking more maturely. By then High school is almost half way done for you. By asking neighbors for candy at that age is taking candy away for other younger boys and girls, and shows how you’re taking advantage of the hospitality people have on Halloween. Not that there’s anything wrong with enjoying candy on Halloween but trick-or-treating is meant for children to enjoy, not high school students on the road to college.
Yes I still have dressed up for Halloween and I wasn't aware about what I was going to do this year until last minute. I dressed up this year to go around with my nieces and nephews because they wanted me to join them. I believe that the age of 18 is when it seems deviant to go out trick or treating. This is because tht's the age that you are socially considered an adult, so dressing up isn't usually what people of that age usually do, they usually just go to a party. So if someone at the age of 18 or older enjoys Halloween like I do, the way to celebrate would most commonly be attending a costume party.
My halloween costume tonight was inspired by a popular SNL skit featuring Justin Timberlake. I did not go trick-or-treating this year because I'll just eat my parents candy.
I don't think there is an age limit for dressing up in a halloween costume. Obviously, as you get older, your costumes probably get more inappropriate, but dressing up in itself is not deviant. Trick-or-treating on the other hand, becomes deviant at the age of 18 (and 18 is pushing it). If you really want candy that badly, hopefully at 16 17, and 18 you will be able to buy yourself a bag of fun-size snickers. It is rude to trick-or-treat at this age unless you are helping a small child who is going to eat the candy you get them.
Sometimes I have planned to dress up for Halloween and thins year was the same but then I never go out trick or treating. Well since today is Halloween and I have given out large amounts of candy to people of all ages, including adults, I think that at a certain age it does become deviant to go out looking for candy from neighbors and even many other strangers. I think that around the age of 13 it becomes deviant to go out on Halloween for trick or treating because after that point in your life you will be entering high school and the costumes are changing from the cute and scary ones to the more inappropriate choices. There have been so many kids at my house on this night that I have even asked a few of them "aren't you a little old for trick or treating?” And they just looked at me, laughed, and even one said "I love you". Those four boys were very deviant and I assure you that they will come back next year for even more candy.
It seems that I am now officially a deviant person after going trick or treating tonight. Why not right? Me and a couple other people that I work with went late after most people had already turned their lights off to see what we could get. At that point there weren't any kids out so we weren't taking their candy. A few people even just dumped whatever candy they had left into my bag because they were done for the night, one house it was a whole bowl. So yes I did dress up and go trick or treating this year, but i agree with most everyone else that there is a limit. Next year I already know I will not go because I will be in college and I think that is a good limit. But while your in high school go for it.
I dress up or Halloween only because I take my nieces and nephes out to help out my step-sister. It's like a family thing with us and usually I go with six people including my step-sister andher husband who also dress up a little for the occasion. However, I do not ask for candy when I go up to the house with them, only when one of the little ones is in the stroller and I have their bag.
However, I do agree with everyone else that it's deviant to dress up for Halloween and go trick or treating when you're obviously too old. that's just being immature and rude.
But I don't think there's an age limit on Halloween; my stepbrother has Halloween parties every year and everyone dresses up for it and he's 25 and married.
It really depends on your plans on how to celebrate it that makes it deviant or nondeviant to dress up for Halloween.
Yes, i have dressed up for halloween my whole life, and i probably will for a while. But i dont think anyone over 16 should be trick or treating. Trick or treating is for children sine they are not yet old enough to go to parties with their friends. So i dont believe there is an age limit to dressing up and having fun on halloween, its a day to be something or someone other than yourself, but adults and teenagers should not be trick or treating.
